Everything in a App

the challenge

I identified both a business opportunity and a chance to improve the experience for people who want to plan their own trips. My goal was to better understand their challenges and explore how we could solve those problems.

Users value the freedom to make their own choices, especially when it helps them save money — This was identified as one of the main reasons people choose to plan trips on their own.

“People who enjoy planning their own trips rarely go back to traveling any other way.” — Report from a participant in a study about planning trips independently versus through travel agencies.

Opportunities

THE SOLUTION

To design this new experience, I focused on three key aspects that users identified as essential for effective trip planning and an enjoyable process: flexbility, money and changes.

Travel mode

#1

How can we handle unexpected situations during a trip? From this question, Travel Mode was created. Users can quickly adjust their itineraries and search for nearby activities based on their location.

Transportation

#2

To provide greater flexibility for users, I decided to expand the transportation options instead of limiting the experience to flights only. This gives users more freedom to organize their travel logistics.

Accomodation

#3

It’s important that the place where users stay supports the logistics of their trip. Because of this, I added two sections: “Where the hotel is located” and “What’s nearby.”

Itinerary

#4

The itinerary is the part of trip planning that tends to change the most, even during the trip itself. It’s important for users that the experience remains quick and practical.

What I learned

What I learned

Flexibility across different use cases is important - Since we can’t predict every possible scenario users may encounter within our products.

Users don’t always know what they want - Sometimes users only realize they need a product or feature after it’s launched and in their hands.
