The number of older adults who rely on their families to ensure their care, safety, and quality of life is growing at a rapid rate, and we know that caring for a dependent elderly person is one of the most demanding responsibilities.

As part of Senior Support’s mission, we developed an app to help and simplify the lives of families caring for dependent older adults, improving the quality of life for both those receiving care and those who dedicate themselves to caring for others.

My role

UI Designer

In this project, I was responsible for the UI of Senior Support, working closely with an amazing UX researcher.

As a team, we split responsibilities between problem exploration and solution design, running workshops and collaborating throughout the entire process to ensure product quality and that our goals were successfully achieved.

After conducting user research, aligning with stakeholders, and running several workshops, we gathered valuable insights that helped us identify and prioritize opportunities for the MVP.

Through conversations with caregivers, we learned that each older adult has a specific routine that needs to be followed. Caregivers often look after multiple people daily, each with different needs and schedules. Properly managing these routines is essential to ensuring consistent and effective care.

Once the team was aligned on our decisions, we reviewed the insights gathered during discovery and brainstorming sessions with stakeholders, and defined our MVP. To validate the product, we launched two main features:

We added a new section to the abandoned carts page called “Abandoned at.” This section helps users understand the reason why a cart was abandoned and allows them to send more contextual messages that increase the chances of conversion.

What I learned

Collaboration between UI & UX - While we each have responsibilities, it’s important designers collaborate throughout the process to ensure product quality.

Agility can sometimes outweigh quality - Startup environments often require testing and validating hypotheses as quickly as possible, helping us learn faster from users.
